The classic Cuban Sandwich and all its goodness , plus some new twists courtesy of BBQ Bob
Twisted Cuban Sandwich

Ingredients
- 1 pork picnic or butt roast
- 1 lb. beef bacon (pan fried or baked)
- ½ lb. salami
- 1 lb. Swiss cheese
- Dill pickles sliced thin long ways
- 1 2 lb. boneless ham
- 3 oz. BBQ Bob’s Alpha Rub (for ham)
- Fresh rolls of bread (I use French bread)
- Butter
To cook the pork roast:
Set smoker to 275°F. indirect.
Place pork roast in a disposable pan and cover it with the pork slather/marinade 1 hour before cooking.
Place the pork on the cooker in the pan and cook until the internal temp. reaches 195-200 or until it is fork tender. (takes approx.. 8-9 hours)
Let rest for 1 hour then pull pork apart. Take some of the drippings from the pan and pour over the pulled pork.
To cook the Ham:
Rub the ham down with some Alpha Rub honey mustard then shake on some Alpha Rub
Place into the smoker for about 1 hour to heat.
Slice the ham thin and set aside.
To assemble the sandwich:
Slice your bread in half and butter both sides. Toast the bread lightly then assemble the sandwiches as follows:
Slather both sides of bread with homemade honey mustard
Place two slices of swiss cheese on both sides
On one side place 3-4 slices of salami, on the other place thin slices of the baked ham
Pace pulled pork onto the ham and spread a little more mustard on the salami
Place pickles down on the mustard and put sandwich together.
Place the sandwich back in the smoker o a piece of foil and press the sandwich down with a foiled brisk or clean heavy object to flatten the sandwich
Leave in the smoker for approx.. 15 minutes
Slice and serve
